A Round of Applause (not Applesauce)

Why is it that people who do the cooking shows get a spontaneous round of applause when they add the portabello mushrooms, or the feta cheese, or the cup of sherry? Good heavens people, I've never had a round of applause in MY kitchen...for anything! And I'm convinced I've prepared a few pretty good pot roasts in my time! Baked a few pans of light and fluffy homemade rolls. Made several steamers of tasty potato soup, loaves of Anadama Bread, and even opened a can or two of Campbell's soup. What am I missing here?

..., ...., can't trust that day.

Through trial and error I've discovered that I should write when the moment calls. Do not wait until 20 hours later, thinking the same inspiration, thought, word, and effort will be there. It will not.
My oldest grand daughter (one of three) said to me the other day, as we were quickly discussing the pleasures and pitfalls of "newer car ownership", "Mamaw, I think sometimes things just get too fancy." I'm right there with you, AnnaB.
My old car was not as protected as this one from straw wrappers, ice cream drippings, and art work. What do we give up in the "get"?

The Best I've Heard it Said

This comes from Mary Oliver....from "Messenger" in Thirst/2006

"My work is loving the world.
Here the sunflowers, there the hummingbird-
equal seekers of sweetness.
Here the quickening yeast; there the blue plums.
Here the clam deep in the speckled sand.

Are my boots old? Is my coat torn?
Am I no longer young, and still not half-perfect? Let me keep my mind on what matters,
which is my work
which is mostly standing still and learning how to be astonished."

My goodness, I love that!

Rainy Monday Morning

Up when the alarm went off at 5:00 a.m. Tired. Humm? Didn't take any of my meds yesterday morning and no Dr. Pepper the whole day. Could that explain those headaches yesterday?
I have a jillion things to do today. Return, pick up, mail, get hair cut, deposit, etc. Rainy Monday in Oklahoma...

This week I'm going to learn (and write the directions for...) how to post pictures from my computer and camera. I feel like a computer dork. Out of touch with that.

Lots of things to get done. Prayers for Becky, Gary and Yvonne, Lisa and her mom, Linda....
I have a poem to post (not original) and it is a KEEPER for sure!
Will get that done tonight!
Peace.

My goodness, it's been a long time since I posted. I'm getting back to this blog thing...I've been on Facebook all summer and enjoying it, but it's NOT a writing place for sure. Not enough room for me!
I am SO DISGUSTED about the direction of thinking with the general population in Oklahoma. It seems that the majority of the people, or at least those who make their voices heard in the media, are so AFRAID of everything!! And yet these are the very same people who talk about their FAITH!!!! Good grief people! Wake up and smell the coffee! or at the very least, smell it on your own breath! Our local newspapers (Tulsa World and Owasso Reporter) have the most rampent articles on the horrors of children hearing the words of our President in their classrooms! What in the WORLD are they THINKING!!! One of our brazen Senators even compared his (President Obama) speaking to the schools as "Marxist thinking."
Here's what I don't get: Are these same people AS CONCERNED with the rate of female incarceration in our state, the rate of child abuse, and the rate of births to mothers under the age of eighteeen, the amount of polluntants in our rivers, creeks, and streams, i.e., ground water pollution? Get on a band box that has some teeth, people!!!
I had a request/encouragement from a friend to get back on my blog. I'm doing JUST THAT. Do not want to let my days go by without my voice being heard, even if it is in my own head!
